Health & Safety Regulations
TECHNICAL BULLETINTHE LIFTING OPERATIONS & LIFTING EQUIPMENT REGULATIONS 1998
(LOLER)
NO.2307 SUMMARY
The above regulations came into effect in December 1998 and will effect various lifting equipment. Particular to our industry, the following points have been extracted for your information.
1) Every employer shall ensure that, where the safety or lifting equipment depends on the installation conditions, it is thoroughly examined
a) After installation and before being put into service for the first time; and
b) After assembly and before being put into service at a new site or in a new location, to ensure that it has been installed correctly and is safe to operate.
2) Thoroughly examined - in the case of lifting equipment for lifting persons or an accessory for lifting, at least every 12 months and every 6 months where the equipment is exposed to conditions causing deterioration which is liable to result in dangerous situations. (this generally taken to mean a hoist in multiple usage).
Caretech recommends if a hoist is used for multiple client lifts during a day then this should be implemented. In addition where it is used 20 or more times a day or in a corrosive atmosphere such as a bathroom, hydrotherapy/swimming pool, to increase life expectancy of the hoist, it is also serviced twice annually.
